But I use it at home and hit it hard and stability is one thing I can never complain about. It sounds more like it's how it's dealing with a certain plugin than its own behavior, or it could be particular to a MacPro thing. Sounds like it's gotten confused about the plugin path. Go to prefs/plugins/VST and clear the plugin cache and set it to the correct location. Possibly someone else set it wrong and it has to look in that wrong place first until it finds it and then has to reload. Fix that and you should be good to go. The crash when inserting plugin is likely due to it being told it's there but isn't really.

Choose the Options, Preferences command, then select VST under the Plug-ins section. You can use the Auto-detect button to locate your plug-ins, but if they are spread across several directories REAPER might not find them all. In this case, you can click on the Add button to specify the location(s) of the folder(s) where your other VST plug-ins are stored. You can leave most other settings as they are (at least for now).

Not that I know of. But in the general preferences you could to try to uncheck "Get VST names/types when scanning" under "plugins - VST".
Video editing
If you ever have to install a js plugin or for any other reason need access to Reapers resource folder there is a very easy solution.
