Exchangeable image file format (Exif, often incorrectly EXIF) is a standard that specifies the formats for images, sound, and ancillary tags used by digital cameras (including smartphones), scanners and other systems handling image, and sound files recorded by digital cameras. The Japan Electronic Industries Development Association (JEIDA) produced the initial definition of the Exif standard. The latest, version 2.3 dated April 2010, was jointly formulated by JEITA and CIPA. Although the specification is not currently maintained by any industry or standards organization, almost all camera manufacturers use it.
ExifTool 9.79 and later allow the file name encoding to be specified with -charset filename=CHARSET, where CHARSET is the name of a valid ExifTool character set, preferably UTF8 (see the -charset option for a complete list). Setting this triggers the use of Windows wide-character i/o routines, thus providing support for most Unicode file names (see note 4). But note that it is not trivial to pass properly encoded file names on the Windows command line (see for details), so placing them in a UTF-8 encoded -@ argfile and using -charset filename=utf8 is recommended if possible.
-ext jpg -ext png -ext psd -ext tif - The file extension(s) to process.
Flag to request all tags to be extracted. This causes some tags to be generated which normally would not be unless specifically requested (by passing the tag name to "ImageInfo" or "ExtractInfo"). May be set to 2 or 3 to enable generation of some additional tags as mentioned in the tag name documentation. Default is undef.

2) In general, MakerNotes tags are considered "Permanent", and may be edited but not created or deleted individually. This avoids many potential problems, including the inevitable compatibility problems with OEM software which may be very inflexible about the information it expects to find in the maker notes.

Extract information for the specified tag (eg. -CreateDate). Multiple tags may be specified in a single command. A tag name is the handle by which a piece of information is referenced. See Image::ExifTool::TagNames for documentation on available tag names. A tag name may include leading group names separated by colons (eg. -EXIF:CreateDate, or -Doc1:XMP:Creator), and each group name may be prefixed by a digit to specify family number (eg. -1IPTC:City). Use the -listg option to list available group names by family.
