If that's the case, then I think I can guide perfectly fine from OSX because I'm able to connect to the SSAG from PHD2 in OSX just fine.
I found this topic a little bit too late, but auto-focus is available for both AstroImager and AstroDSLR in the meantime. It works with a manually selected star and is based on FWHM, HFD and peal value combination.
The registers that can be directly written to are:
pulse guiding is what you understand it to be. the thing about ST4 is that the computer has to close the guide relay, wait some amount of time and the release the guide relay. with pulse guiding the driver sends a command to the mount that says something like "guide east for 15ms" and the mount just does it.
