If you connect your computer to hard drives formatted for Windows in the NTSF format and you want to be able to save or move files onto those drives, you need FUSE or something like it. Some time ago (I think Lex is right that it was with the introduction of 10.9) FUSE didn’t get updated and became unstable. It is now open source and I don’t know what its status is. If you absolutely need to write to NTFS drives, Paragon Software markets an up to date driver that is stable under 10.10 — don’t know about 10.11 which is due out today sometime.
RSS: Reeder ($10, free when I got it) or Leaf ($10, but I got it when it was free), because they use Feedly to sync with my iPad. Also, the more basic Feedly.

These useless files can be easily removed within Funter. Depending on your habit of using apps, you can find more remaining files.
